Full name:
Rex Cartagena
About:
Engineering team lead of virtual experiences by day, and game developer / synthwave producer by night.
I started making games in the mid 90's and that led me to a path of opportunities in California where I worked at Zynga programming interactive game content and mini games, then joined a small engineering team along with John Romero (Doom) and created an internal game engine for games such as Ghost Recon Commander (among others). Also, got to work at Konami and dabbled with the MLB, Contra and Castlevania franchises. Besides the game industry also worked in the AdTech industry with companies such as CBS Interactive, Adobe and more.
On my spare time I made music under the name LaserPowerBlast which is Sci-fi / 80's inspired synthwave, electro and rock.
Also worked with remote programmers on projects that cannot be disclosed.
After all these years I still enjoy making games independently to sharpen my design, audio, animating, and programming skills. Overall it gives you more perspective in future projects and communicate better with other non-programming disciplines.
