Root Access

The year is 1999, you and your like-minded partner are about to do some digital crime together… But what’s the password? Your objective is to find the root to the password of rich bastards! In this 2 player game, you and another player are both in a hacking game trying to figure out the “connecting words”. Each player will see a part of that word that needs to be found, when figured out, one player has to click on the half finished word to enter the next hack. One round lasts up to 40 seconds. Each player needs one monitor and keyboard in order to play. Players use the arrow keys in order to move around the monitor-hacking-space and press “Enter” to execute a break in. If the wrong word is selected the timer goes down and you get less time to make a successful break in. We want the players to work together and figure out a workflow that works for them. While the gameflow is working itself out, we want our players to feel like they really are hackers through a gameplay loop that rewards/ delights both players through playtesting and discussions. We also do this through crispy clean sound and by giving the main music track new stems for every successful breach. We’ve built the game ground up using Java. All art assets are made in MS Paint.
