Join the Las Vegas Global Game Jam 2021!
This is an annual game jam for Nevada and the greater Las Vegas area! While normally hosted in-person at the UNLV Center for Gaming Innovation, due to organizational mandates this year will be a virtual event.
WHAT IS IT?
A game jam is a hackathon for game development! The goal is to make a game from start-to-finish within 48 hours, however the journey is often more important than the destination!
WHERE IS IT?
The Las Vegas 2021 GGJ will be online-only, hosted virtually through Discord. We will meet virtually through Discord, form teams, discuss, watch the GGJ theme announcement together, and support each other throughout the course of the jam. At the end, we'll all play each other's games!

WHEN IS IT?
Jan. 29 - 31, 2021
Friday, January 29th at 12pm PST to Sunday, January 31st at 12pm PST.
Exact times are subject to change based on information from GGJ HQ. Everything should be ironed out well before January. An exact schedule including kickoff / post-jam events within Discord will be determined closer to the date.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
We'll meet virtually in Discord, form teams, and then work, discuss, and play together from our separate homes.
An optional theme will be announced at the start of the jam, and then everyone has 48 hours to build their games! You must make your game from start-to-finish in this time period.

dO I HAVE TO WORK IN A TEAM?
You don't have to. Work alone, with your friends, or random new people!
WHAT GAME ENGINES / TECHNOLOGY CAN I USE?
Anything you want. Unity, Unreal, GameMaker, Construct, Ren'Py, Photoshop, Powerpoint—anything you want!
WHAT KINDS OF GAME CAN I MAKE?
Anything you want. Video game, board game, card game, VR game, puzzle game, FPS, pong clone—anything you want!
I DON'T KNOW HOW TO MAKE A GAME?
That's okay! The Global Game Jam is often a first-time learning experience for new game developers! You can work on a team in any number of roles, and there will be a variety of resources and support to help you make your first game!
If you're still uncomfortable participating, you can simply observe and play the games instead of making your own, but we really encourage you to try your hand! You might be surprised at what you can do; modern game development is extremely accessible, and you can make a simple game with no prior knowledge with a free game engine in less than a half hour!

WHO CAN JOIN?
Anyone! You don't have to be in Las Vegas or Nevada if you want to participate. The events will be run on the PST-time zone, but if you want to, you're welcome to join regardless of your location, discipline, or skill level.
