GLENMARIE is now an official Jam Site!
UOW Malaysia KDU is more focused on student developers and hobbyists although all levels of developers are welcome. We hope to have mentors on site to assist and guide with those who are new to Game Jamming or Game Development in particular. In the past, this site has been the largest site in Malaysia and we invite for Global Game Jam 2020! Feel free to contact the Site Organizers for any further questions.
FAQs and TIPs
I'M A NUB!
Everyone is welcome. From all skill levels, age, etc. If you are uncertain, feel free to contact the organizers (us)!
However, Global Game Jam does have an age-requirement of being at least 18-years old to participate so if you fall below that category, do contact the Site Organizer.
UOW students have access to the labs but participants from outside are required to bring their own devices (desktops, laptops, etc). We will be providing power plugs around the site but you are advised to bring your own extension cords. The safety of your equipment is your responsibility as the venue cannot be held responsible for any loss, theft or damage that occurs. Please bring cable-locks. There are also lockers available near the site. Also recommended are headphones or earphones, there will be other people working in the vincinity so it might not be polite to blast music.
I CAN ONLY COME ON SATURDAY
It will be tricky but there will be teams still forming on Saturday. We will organize a second formation session on Saturday at 9am for latecomers.
CAN I COME WITH A TEAM?
It is best to not come to the Jam with a team. Ideally everyone forms teams on Friday, and get the chance to work with a new collaborator or few! You will have some time to think and pitch an idea. Make new friends or jam with peers you admire. If you insist on coming with a team, we have House Rules and a Random Game Generator to add some challenge to the Jam.
We are allocating spaces to sleep but participants are encouraged to bring their own sleeping bags, blankets and also warm clothes (sweaters, jackets) as the air-conditioners can be cold. There will be rooms for both male and female participants to sleep and secure their belongings.
Lunch on Sunday is provided but every other meal is to be borne by the participant, we have a lot of eateries just next to the campus and also a 24-hour 7-Eleven on campus. We have a Texas Chicken, Subway, Mamak (Local Food), Oiso (Korean), Vibes, a food-court and more! We will also have some light snacks at the jam site.
We do not have purpose built showers but the bathrooms are really clean and we usually provide buckets, pails and the means to shower.
LEAVING THE SITE
Our local policy is that you can leave at any time, you can even go home and rest before heading back to continue your work but we advise you to inform your team about your commitment to the Jam and how much time can you realistically spend. The point of the GGJ is to collaborate with your team.
Parking at the Utropolis (next to KDU UC) is charged but we recommend parking there. Parking on KDU grounds is usually capped at RM4.50/day.
This is an academic site therefore smoking, vaping or e-cigs are strictly prohibited. There is a small hut built outside the campus for smoking needs. Anyone caught smoking will have to be asked to leave. This includes the car-parks, stairwells and other public areas.
OTHERWISE WELCOME TO GLOBAL GAME JAM 2020!
