UNC & IGDA Triangle GGJ 2017
Are you a current or aspiring game developer living in the Triangle area? Have you been looking for an opportunity to meet and work with likeminded people? Then Global Game Jam (GGJ) may be for you! Participants in GGJ work concurrently with developers around the globe, rallying around a central theme to create a game over the course of 48 hours.
IGDA NC-Triangle Chapter is pleased to announce that we will be partnering with the Carolina Game Developers Association of UNC Chapel Hill to host this GGJ site again!
1. Game Jam and Unreal Engine Workshop with Michael Noland and Travis Thompkins of Epic Games
A two part talk led by local game developers, focusing first on game jams in general, including what it is, tips and tricks, benefits of participating, and advice for time management and scope. Next, you will be presented with a quick primer on Unreal Engine, including examples of UE4 jam games and Q&A to tailor the curriculum to audience interest.
WHEN: Tuesday, January 17th, 4:00-5:30 p.m.
WHERE: Sitterson Hall, Room FB007
2. Global Game Jam at UNC
IGDA NC-Triangle Chapter and IGDA UNC will announce this year’s Global Game Jam theme once it becomes available to our area in accordance with GGJ rules. Once the theme is announced, participants in this game jam site will be able to continuously work on their projects onsite until the end of the event. During the course of the weekend, jam participants will be visited by developers from various local studio affiliates like Epic Games and Funcom, and may also have the opportunity to receive some sweet game dev swag. Some snacks will be provided, but you must otherwise provide all your own materials. After the deadline for handing in games has passed, there will be a showcase where any participants may share their work if they wish.
WHEN: Friday, January 20th at 4:00 p.m. – Sunday, January 22nd at 6:00 p.m.
WHERE: Sitterson Hall, Rooms SN014, SN011, FB007, and the lobby
Sitterson Hall at UNC is located at 201 S Columbia St., Chapel Hill, NC 27599
