Tile-based, single-player RTS with a purposefully clumsy control mechanic.
Ruoskapuutarha, 'Whip garden' is a game in which malevolence is discouraged. Player is bestowed upon responsibility to gently guide a mindless herd of subjects to prosperity. Humanoid subjects are hard-working, but unfortunately lacking rationale and impulse control. Left without surveillance they will tear down everything they have just moments ago enthusiastically built.
Player's power and influence in the game world is manifested through a giant, floating whip. Whip is used to steer the focus of the humanoid flock to expand and create and simultaneously act as a repellent to keep it from staying put and destroying built dwellings. The challenge is to handle the whip accurately and delicately as physical violence easily causes the herd to go into full-on panic and eventually desert the realm.
The game is played with a mouse. Cursor movement controls the position of the whip and panning of the camera. Left-click is used for lashing. The play area has a limited spaces to build. Lashing the ground marks the tiles for construction. The flock will automatically move towards the closest marked tile and start building. Without any unfinished constructions on the play area, the flock will automatically start destroying the nearest building. Hitting the flock might start a panic. Flock in a panic might run away from the play area. Members of the flock leaving the play area do not return. Without any subjects on play the game is over. There is no winners in the game.
Game art is heavily inspired by Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch's best-known triptych, The Garden of Earthly Delights.
