Jack The Fisherman

This is the story of a fisherman, Jack, and his journey back to his village. Jack came from many generations of fisherman. He was loyal to his village, as he was willing to travel through any weather conditions to bring back fish for them. One sunny day, he prepared to go out to sea on his daily catch. 'I will return with plenty of fish for my people. There will be not one hungry soul once I come back,' he thought to himself. However, he did not expect for there to be a storm. The storm was fierce, and it had taken the majority of his fish, destroyed his sail, and also damaged his boat. Once the storm had passed, he noticed he was stranded in the middle of the pacific. The waves were still, and he saw that he only had one fish left in his net. Jack grew hungry, as he’d eaten the rest of his rations and been lost at sea for more than 2 days. He’d usually be back within a day, but this trial had left him at a stand still. 'I have no other choice, I must eat this fish to survive,' he thought to himself. As he brought the fish from the net, a mysterious giant red snapper appeared before him. The fish spoke, “Dear stranger, I have grown tired and hungry from my journey across the sea. Please, lend me your only fish.” Jack thought, 'If I were to capture this fish, I would be able to feed my village for days.' But he realized this fish was in the same situation as him, and while he may have a little longer to live, this fish may not even survive a day. Jack took the fish, and dropped it into the red snapper’s mouth. “Your kindness will not go unnoticed, my friend,” the red snapper sung to him. Before Jack’s eyes, what he thought to be a giant red snapper had transformed into one of the seven lucky Gods, Ebisu. “Jack, your kindness has shone through. Because of your selfless act, I will guide you on your way back to your village.”
