Jam Site Description: 


The American University Game Lab and the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) DC Chapter bring you Global Game Jam 2016's Washington, DC site at American University! The annual event encourages participants to challenge themselves and push their creativity and learning to the limit. Teams will be tasked with designing and creating digital and non-digital games over the course of one weekend.

The entry fee is $25 and can be paid here:

Participants, ranging from amateurs to industry professionals, gather at each site location to create, collaborate and present innovative new games to the global community. The Global Game Jam will be held January 29-30, 2016 at American University's McKinley building.  

Make games with local and upcoming developers! This event will bring professionals and students together to create interactive, innovative media projects. Game Jam teams at the American University site will have access to unique amenities provided by American University, including on-site meals. Jammers can also engage the AU community to playtest their games. The American University Global Game Jam site is a great place to learn, create and network with DC's interactive media, software development and visual design communities!

Day 1 - Intro

4:30 - 6: Pre-jam workshops (Mary Graydon Center 332)

  • Jammers can check in during the workshops at the workshop location

4:30 - 5: Andrew Eiche, North Star Games - 5 Unity features that will save your game jam
5 - 5:30:  Melanie Stegman, Molecular Jig games - Techniques for building player agency
5:30 - 6: Andrew Eiche, North Star Games - Team Management and Production for Game James

5:15 - 6:30: Check-in for people not attending the workshops (Outside of McKinley Hall room 101) 

6:00 - 6:15 pm: Announcements and Keynote 

6:15 - 6:30 pm: Announcements and Keynote (McKinley 101) 

6:30 - 7:00 pm: Reveal of Theme and Brainstorming 

7:00 - 7:30 pm: Team forming activity and move to jam-space (Jam spaces revealed during opening events)

8:00 - ?: JAM! 

Day 2 - Jam 

11:00 am - Deadline to create user profile and game pages

6:00 pm - Check-in, open playtesting time, and sound design workshop by Chris Kukla (McKinley 101)

Day 3 - Outro

1:00 pm - Deadline to upload games to GGJ Server 

2:00 pm - Cleanup time - pack up shop and clean your area

3:00 - 5:00 pm: Presentations (McKinley 101) 

5:00 - 7:00 pm: Open game playing time (McKinley 101)
